Thanksgiving Outfit Casual

Yes, turkey day is upon us again and with all the planning, traveling and cooking you’re doing, thinking about what to wear is probably the furthest thing from your mind. Even I don’t usually plan my Thanksgiving Day outfit in advance! I want to offer you a few ideas for looking your best (and beating the stress) while you relax and enjoy the company of friends and family. After all, it is a time for gratitude and being at your best will help you to be open to all the blessings flowing to you at this time.

If you’re planning a casual family get together like I am, jeans may fit the bill perfectly. Not too dressy, but not too casual, take your denim to new heights with a fabulous top and some great low-heeled shoes. If you’re going to be lounging around at home (yours or someone else’s) heels may be more of a pain than they’re worth. Try some comfortable low-heeled boots or shoes that allow you to take part in an impromptu game of tag with the kids (as my day usually ends up) or slip off without wrecking your whole look. Layers are best as it can get warm, so wear a heavier coat if it’s warm but a lighter weight top. You may want to take a scarf or shawl if you get chilly.

If a more upscale meal at a special restaurant or the club is on your agenda, you can’t go wrong with a pretty, feminine dress. This gorgeous floral is understated and elegant and looks great on many figure types. Find the dress that works for you and accessorize to bring out your best features. Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks but not the time to show off your flashiest, low-cut dress. Keep your look subtle and save your more provocative items for date night.

Spending the day traveling may be on the agenda for many of you, and that calls for an outfit that gives you some mileage. You may be visiting relatives or taking an excursion with your significant other. Keep it simple with a monochromatic look in one of the season’s best colors (and yours!) and dress it up with some fun accessories. A faux-fur vest gives a dash of elegance to a simple look. Flats keep your feet feeling great no matter what the day brings. Some fun accessories and a bag that can handle all your essentials give that added something to your outfit that makes it ‘greater than the sum of its parts’.

Whatever your day holds, I hope it is a wonderful time filled with friends, family and love. Happy Thanksgiving!
